B8       La Pensee Critique Chez de Jeunes Eleves au Primaire
Pouvons-nous esperer que les très jeunes enfants pensent de façon critique ? N’ont-ils pas a apprendre ‘les bases’ d’abord avaant que nous leur demandons de faire des jugements motives ? Comment somees-nous censes d’evaluer leur pensee quand ils ne peuvant pas encore écrire ? Ce sont des questions importantes posees tous les jours par les enseignants du primaire. Dans cet atelier, nous allons étudier les moyens practiques que nous pouvons utiliser pour engager les jeunes enfants dans las pensee critique et enfin nourrir leur capacite a penser en apprenant les fondamentaux. Nous allons  examiner des exemples concrets utilises par les enseignants dans les classes primaires, les réponses correspondantes des eleves et les moyens de soutenir les parents de jeunes enfantes.
 
Giovanna Longhi is assistant principal at a downtown school in Calgary serving a diverse community and is also currently working on the Alberta Curriculum Review initiative. She is active in local and regional social studies and French Immersion professional learning committees and specialist councils. Giovanna supports the work of organizations that assist with the integration of new Canadians. She has collaborated on a locally developed high school Indigenous Studies course and has completed studies on indigenous education through the University of British Columbia. Giovanna sat on the Teachers Advisory Committee of the Teacher’s Institute on Canadian Parliamentary Democracy and is an alumnus of the Harvard Project Zero Institute. Giovanna has been honoured as a semi-finalist for Alberta Excellence in teaching Awards and received the Class Act award from TC2. Giovanna facilitates sessions in English and French, supporting inquiry-based pedagogy, embedding critical thinking strategies in classroom activities and developing collaborative and engaging learning opportunities for students and teachers.
